Life Through the Eyes of Lady Macbeth
Discovery of murder!!
Hurry, hurry!! Must get to bed quickly! Phew...that was close. We almost got discovered. We won't want to be suspected of murder. However, that Macbeth is still lost in his thoughts. I think that he is regreting the murder. No!! I will not allow that to happen. WE MUST SUCCEED!! My husband must be king! It is his dream and I will make it come to pass. The knocking at the door is getting louder. I will send my husband out to act the part of the gracious host. Hopefully, my dear, you will be like the serpent underneath the flower. You must not look like an open book. Disguise yourself, let not your true intention shine through. Remember my words, my dearest beloved. I wonder how I can act when the murder is discovered. Maybe.... By screaming? By crying or wailing.......... I know! I can pretend to faint and be weak and moan aloud. Ah! That's my cue to step in! Haha.... They really believed my previous pretense! They think I am a weak- hearted woman! Yes... i will use this to my advantage. Opps.... I just had a slip of the tongue. I hope nobody realises that. Stupid...stupid me! What's this? Hmm.. it seems my husband is not as useless as i deemed him to be. He really is acting his part well. Wait.... what is he doing? His words are too direct, they are giving him away! Well, it's me to the rescue..... I will have to faint after all. My dear husband, please be careful in what you do or say. They are beginning to suspect you. You can do it. Yes, you can! Believe in yourself. Go on, fight for what is rightful yours! Fate is afterall on our side!
Macbeth fumbles
the fool of a Macbeth! He almost ruined the plans! Don't get me wrong, hon... i still love you. but how could you be so dumb?? dumb enough to bring the murder weapons into our chamber, that is. they could have found out! if i didn't return them to the officers, they would have known that we were the murderers! oh horrors of horrors! PLUS! ha didn't dare to return the daggers! I had to do it! Duncan's blood is stained on my hand. and now that silly goose is making a big fuss about nothing. he's saying that the Thane of Glamis has murdered sleep, and Macbeth, Thane of Cawdor shall sleep no more... things like that. so totally trance-like. he scared me for awhile then i realized that he was just guilty. listen! i hear knocks on the door. i have to leave.
The king is coming--for the first and last time.
Oh darling, darling! you are too soft for your own good. Valiant and noble, yes indeed. But you must see, Macbeth, that there is no other way to fulfill your destiny as the king of Norway. You must hunt or be hunted. You MUST know that the opportunity is now here! We must act tonight, or else, all hope is lost. I wouldn't do anything to harm you, my love. You must know that. All i'm planning is for you. All i want is to see you happy and living in luxury. I want you to enjoy your life and not have to fight for it in battles. You deserve freedom! Oh, Macbeth. Take the chance when you can! Listen to me. Please.
THE KING IS COMING TODAY! Isn't that totally lovely? Duncan is sending himself to our doorstep! Tonight is the night! I will help Macbeth fulfill his prophecy and I will get to have my wishes answered too! Soon I will be the queen of Norway. The QUEEN! Oh, how beautiful i will look in all those silk robes of purple and gold. of course, Macbeth will look dashing too. But, oh! How beautiful i will be. All eyes will be on ME when i enter the party which i will call for. All the men will be dying to dance with me! It has to be fate! Why else would Duncan come to our house for no reason? No intvitation was extended either. This was meant for us! Oh, i can already feel the crown upon my head. The feeling is so tangible, that it is unprecedented. Queen Macbeth. How lovely! I will look stunningly ravishing in those clothes of the royal.
But now is not the time to dream. The king is coming soon! There is so much to prepare. Let's see... Poison? A nasty tumble down the palace stairs? An overdose of drugs? An accidental fire? or... ... i know! I could drug him to sleep! That would be lovely. And Macbeth could sneak into his chamber and kill him. I will drug the chamberlains and officers too. In fact, I could push the blame of the murder onto the stupid officers! Wonderful! Honey, you are a genius! Macbeth is so lucky to be married to you, you know?
Spirits come! Give me a heart of stone, unbreakable and cold. A heart un-yielding to threats and fear! Take away my humanity and emotions. In their place, give me a scheming mind and an artful face on which i'll place a mask of hospitality. Teach me to steal, kill and destroy! Oh Darkness! Fall upon the earth like a heavy quilt and hide the stars from my eyes. Let not the heavens see our evil deeds. Let not a single soul know of what we will do. Kill Duncan, kill Duncan, kill... ... ... ...
No time to talk. It is time to prepare the way of the king. He must have a chamber ready for his arrival. The Lord's anointed cannot be kept waiting, can he? He might as well have a good dinner and enjoy this evening, for tomorrow, he shall not see the sun rise nor hear the rooster crow. Have fun, your majesty. It is, after all, your last meal...
Be strong, my love. Take care not to show your true intentions. This is not a time to let your strength falter or i shall indeed doubt my decision in marrying you. Remember, stay strong and stay hospitable. Don't start to weaken your boldness. I know you can do this. Did you not kill Macdonwald and his many men in the war? Was that not my husband who had victory in the palm of his hand? Is the love of my heart not the Thane of Glamis and the Thane of Cawdor? Will he not keep his promise to me? I know you can, Macbeth. I know you can.
